Mandi, February 16

The Kardar Sangh has urged Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to construct a new temple for Madho Rai, the chief deity of Mandi town. Shivpal Sharma, president of the sangh, said it was a long-pending demand.

“’The place, where the deity is placed, does not have adequate space to accommodate more deities during Shivratri,” Shivpal said.

During the week-long Shivratri fair, over 200 deities from different parts of the district congregate in the town to take part in the event. A colourful procession of deities is taken out.

“A delegation of the Kardar Sangh met the Chief Minister, urging him to provide funds for the construction of the new temple for Madho Rai. He has assured us to do the needful,” he added. — TNS
