Jalandhar, March 16

Former Local Bodies Minister and BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia has sent a legal notice to Congress MLA Rajinder Beri over the latter’s remarks accusing Kalia of supporting a drug cartel in the region.

“All allegations levelled by the legislator are false. These have been levelled to defame me and tarnish my image,” said Kalia. He said since the beginning of his political career, he had been serving the public and encouraging the youth to take up sports, for which he constructed and renovated stadiums.

Kalia has sought damages to the tune of Rs 5 crore from Beri and some news portals for carrying his statement without “verifying the facts”.

Standing by his allegations, Beri alleged that in the past 10 years, Kalia had supported drug peddlers and got them released using influence. He said he was ready to fight a legal battle against Kalia.
