A three-day international conference on “Food Security, Nutrition and Sustainable Agriculture-Emerging Techniques” concluded at Baba Farid Group of Institutions (BFGI) here on Saturday. As many as 300 delegates from five countries and 15 states of the country participated in the conference.

The chief guest of the valedictory function was Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Dr C Anandharamakrishanan, director, IIFPT (Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology), Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, was the guest of honour.

More than 500 students and research scholars read the papers. Over 250 research papers were received in the conference, out of which 155 would be published in the journal of the Society of Pharmacogognosis and Phyto-Chemistry.

Harsimrat appreciated BFGI for organising the conference. She congratulated the BFGI management for their achievements in various fields. The food processing was directly related to agriculture and it was an area which had many job opportunities to provide to a section of the youth.

Referring to the achievements of the Ministry of Food Processing, she said after the opening of Mega Food Park in Punjab, the incubation and training centre of IIFPT had been opened in Bathinda where farmers and students were being trained to adopt food processing techniques.

Dr Anandharamakrishanan said he wanted BFGI to introduce food technology courses and he expressed their desire to provide training, faculty and international facilities in the field of food technology so that both the institutions could work together for the benefit of people, farmers and students of the area.
