Health and Sports Minister Anil Vij on Tuesday said the state’s sports policy was the best in the country. He claimed that players would be given appointment letters as per parameters for performances at the international level without any recommendation.
He said players who fulfilled criteria could apply online. He said after review, appointment letter would be sent to the player’s house. He said so far, 100 players had applied under this policy and 50 of them would be given appointment letters this month.
He was speaking after inaugurating the international-level badminton hall at Shaheed Lieutenant Mukesh Anand Memorial Sports Complex, built at a cost of Rs 4.57 crore. He inaugurated the state-level Sports Mahakumbh of badminton and gymnastics in Ambala. About 600 players were participating in the events.
He said the mahakumbh was being organised in seven districts of the state. He said the events of badminton and gymnastics were being organised in Ambala from November 13 to 15. He claimed that during the tenure of previous governments, players had to wait for years to get prize money.
He claimed that rewards which were supposed to be given by previous governments were given by this government.
Tempers fly
A fight broke out between two players over a chair. Maganesh of Jhajjar sustained a minor injury on the head after a male Bhiwani player hit him with a chair. They were persuaded into a compromise by officials. The injured player was taken to the civil hospital, where he was provided first-aid.
