Kurukshetra, March 14

A delegation of the Japanese Society of Irrigation, Drainage and Rural Engineering on Wednesday visited the solar power micro-irrigation project at Dera Fateh Singh village, near Pehowa, in the district.

The initiative of water conservation by using indigenously developed irrigation technology impressed the foreign delegates.

They appreciated the project, in which canal water supply was being provided to the fields by using drip irrigation and water sprinklers.

They interacted with a group of farmers who were part of the project undertaken by the Canal Area Development Authority.

Karanjit Singh, a farmer, said the technique had been yielding results as the pilot project indicated a considerable drop in water requirement in cultivation of paddy and wheat. He pointed out that 16 farmers had become a part of the project by giving their land for experimentation.
