Jalandhar pipped hosts Patiala on the basis of first innings lead to lift the U-16 ML Marka Trophy at Dhruv Pandove Stadium today.
Electing to bat, Jalandhar colts rode on 119-run eighth-wicket partnership between wicketkeeper-batsman Mridul Sandal and Krish Bhagat to score 253 runs in their first innings after the visitors were struggling at 122/7.
While Sandal was dismissed by skipper Emanjot Singh Chahal on 76, Bhagat remained not out on 47.
Earlier, Aditya Joshi added a useful 46 to the Jalandhar total.
Chahal was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts, claiming 4/90. Abhinav Kumar Rao bagged 3/69.
Defending a decent total, Jalandhar bowlers led by skipper Akashjit Singh bundled out Patiala for 187 runs in their first essay. Akashjit claimed 6/75 in his 23 overs. He was well supported by Kartik Chadha, who returned with figures of 4/34.
Leading Patiala by 66 runs, Jalandhar in their second innings were all out for 151 runs. Chahal once again proved to be their nemesis, claiming 7/64. Jaskirat picked the remaining three wickets.
Akashjit (50) did the bulk of scoring for the visitors.
Needing 218 runs for victory, Patiala in their second innings were struggling on 64/4 when the play ended on the second and final day.
