Jail inmate escapes from TB hospital

AMRITSAR: A jail inmate, Shamsher Singh alias Gora, escaped from police custody from Government TB Hospital on Tuesday.

A jail inmate, Shamsher Singh alias Gora, escaped from police custody from Government TB Hospital on Tuesday.

A case was registered and the policemen deputed with him suspended for dereliction of duty.

According to information available, a police team headed by ASI Jagjit Singh brought around 19 males and 3 female jail inmates for a medical check-up to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital from Amritsar Central Jail. After the medical check-up, Shamsher Singh was referred to the TB hospital where he was admitted.

ASI Jagjit Singh returned to the jail with the other inmates. Upon his return, he found both the prisoner Shamsher Singh and head constable Lakhwinder Singh missing from the TB hospital. The doctors present at the hospital said the prisoner had fled from the hospital due to the negligence of the head constable.

A case under section 223 and 224 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against them and further investigations are underway.
