Srinagar, January 16

The tourism department on Wednesday started its promotional campaign by showcasing products at the South Asian Travel and Tourism Exhibition (SATTE) — Asia’s largest travel show — at New Delhi.

As part of the efforts to increase the footfall in the state, the department will hold a series of promotional events across the country and will also hold roadshows in Malaysia, Thailand and Bangladesh.

Rigzin Samphel, secretary, tourism; Nisar Ahmad Wani, director, tourism (Kashmir); Om Prakash Bhagat, director, tourism (Jammu), along with other senior officers of the department participated in the event, which will conclude on January 18.

On the first day of the event, the tourism department screened short movies on different destinations to attract tourists. A large number of visitors turned up at the J&K pavilion, as per a tourism department official, to enquire about state tourism products, new destinations and infrastructure.

During the convention, state tourism officials and heads of the local travel and hospitality sector will also hold separate meetings with mediapersons to apprise them of the safety of tourists in Kashmir.

“SATTE is one of the largest tourism shows in Asia to promote our tourist destinations. The department will provide all information about the tourist spots, products, and services being offered to visitors in the state,” said Samphel.

Over 20,000 domestic and international sellers and buyers, state tourism officials, heads of international tourism boards, hoteliers, and aviation experts are participating in the exhibition.
