Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the Congress, and not he, would take a call on who would be the next party president.

“The call on who will be the Congress president will be that of the party’s and not mine,” Gandhi said when asked to comment on the reports in a section of Hindi media about Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot having Gandhi’s assurance to be the next party chief.

Reports appearing on Thursday quoted Gandhi as telling Gehlot on Wednesday that he would be the next party president.

Gehlot was in the AICC and walked with Gandhi as he arrived to celebrate his birthday with Congress leaders.

Rahul, while responding to the reference to the Rafale in the President’s address to a joint session of Parliament, said, “I steadfastly believe that there was thievery in the Rafale deal. There was theft and corruption, and that’s my stand.”
