The teachers of government schools here have condemned the government at the Centre for providing mere ‘peanuts’ to the education sector in the current budget. The teachers said as per reports, just 3 per cent of the total budget has been kept for education, which was too less.

Charan Singh Sarabha, the president of Government School Teachers’ Union here said as per the Kothari Commission and 1968 Education policy, 10 per cent of the total budget has to be allocated to education whereas in the current budget, just three per cent has been given for the same. “Education is the primary segment required for a country to prosper and compete with the world. Unfortunately, the government here has never kept 10 per cent for education. There are around one lakh schools in the country, where just one teacher teaches the students up to Class V. We can grow only if our generations are educated. How can we compete with the world when we are not enough qualified,” said Sarabha.

Voicing similar views, the state president Surinder Puari and general secretary Balkar Valtoha said the government should start thinking seriously about giving importance to education. Education for all students was must and enough facilities should be given to the students so that they become responsible citizens and put-in their efforts for the progress of the country. They said the contractual teachers, all over, should be regularised. “When teachers will be satisfied, they will give their best to educate the students. How can the government expect ill-paid teachers to teach the students whole heartedly?” asked the leaders of the teaching union.

Another teacher Parveen Kumar said the teachers were too unhappy with the policies of the government. If this continued, the outcome would be bad as the studies of the students will be affected.

Education, health grossly neglected in Budget 2019-20: MPCI

Doraha, February 4: The state secretary of Marxist Communist Party of India (United) MCPI (U) Pawan Kumar Kaushal has flayed the interim budget presented by the government terming it as anti public as it has practically nothing to offer to those who are reeling under multiple pressures. "The public is disgruntled with the interim budget that it would never even think of supporting Modi government again. Those for whom even sustenance has become a Herculean task had pinned high hopes from this budget, but sadly all their hopes have been dashed to the ground," Kaushal said. "The Budget is conspicuously silent on improving health system, education, removing unemployment, creation of jobs as well as granting social security to the common people. The Budget proposal heavily relies on public private partnership and FDI to gear up investment which is hardly going to happen going by the past experience," the state secretary opined. "The Budget proposes drastic cut in central plan outlay in agriculture and allied sectors, rural development and social services and women and child development. There is no increase in allocation in MGNREGA. The Budget also proposes a decline in subsidies to petroleum by Rs 22,054 crores, which would impose more burden on people and further increase the inflationary pressure. Therefore, the budget essentially fails to chart a trajectory to increase growth and investment, create employment and check inflation that was needed in the current scenario," he said. "It is a budget relying more on privatisation and foreign investment and short on innovative ideas to increase revenue. The Budget is grossly regressive and anti-people and would increase the burden on the common people," he rued. Lovleen Bains
