The Commissionerate of Police today busted an inter-state drug smuggling gang with the arrest of two persons, including an ITI student, and 1.5 kg heroin was also recovered from their possession in Partappura Adda. The suspects have been identified as Subeg Singh (35), alias Babba, of Latian village in Kapurthala and his brother-in-law Jatinder Singh (20), alias Gobinda, of Daulewala village in Moga.

Addressing mediapersons at a press meet here, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said inspector Resham Singh, head of the Jandiala police post, had a tip-off about the suspects and nabbed them at Partappura Adda after recovering 1.5 kg of heroin from the duo — 1 kg from Subeg and 500 kg from Jatinder Singh.

The Police Commissioner said during preliminary interrogation, Subeg revealed that he works as a labourer and was also a drug addict. He started smuggling the contraband to earn easy money and he was already facing two drug cases in Kapurthala. Bhullar said Subeg had brought the heroin from Dwarka, Delhi, for Rs 7 lakh per kg and he used to sell the drug for Rs 1200-1300 per gm in nearby villages here. Subeg had already sold 1.5 kg of the contraband here after buying from Delhi in the past two months. Also, Subeg used to communicate with Delhi-based suppliers through WhatsApp calls only.

Whereas, Jatinder has been studying in 2nd-year welder trade course at ITI, Kot Ise Khan, and got indulged in the smuggling for earning easy money. The Police Commissioner said both had been booked under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and they would be interrogated further about their links in Delhi.
