Intellectual property rights cell at GKU

BATHINDA: To promote and make students aware of intellectual property rights (IPR), the department of research, Guru Kashi University (GKU) has established an IPR cell under the aegis of Patent Information Centre (PIC), Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST), Chandigarh.

To promote and make students aware of intellectual property rights (IPR), the department of research, Guru Kashi University (GKU) has established an IPR cell under the aegis of Patent Information Centre (PIC), Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST), Chandigarh.

Vice-Chancellor Dr JS Dhillon said Dr Jatinder Kaur Arora, executive director, PSCST, has accorded her approval for the setting up of an IPR cell for strengthening the IPR regime at GKU, being the 15th such cell set up in Punjab and Chandigarh. PIC-PSCST will provide full legal, technical and financial support to the IPR cell for creation, protection and management of IPRs and innovations.

Sukhraj Singh Sidhu, managing director, lauded the department of research for the establishment of the IPR cell. He said, “It would definitely encourage our students to file their patents and accomplish our objective of being one of the best research-oriented universities in India.” Dr RK Bansal, dean (Research), said the mandate of the IPR cell was to provide IPRs protection information, orientation and facilities to GKU researchers and scientists and guide researchers on how to obtain and sustain a patent. He said, “It will formulate GKU IP policy for IP activities.”
