Local industrialists for the first time witnessed some innovative and newly introduced technologies for various industries during the first day an exhibition on ‘Machine Tools -Automation and Engineering Technology’ (Machma Expo) being held here.

The three-day exhibition will conclude on Sunday.

Sanjeev Soni, a member of the sanitary cluster and manufacturer at Guru Kirpa Metal, on Friday said he had manufactured a completely new machine for the gate valve and ball valve industry, which had now not been introduced in the country so far.

He exhibited a ‘cutter’ machine for the first time on Friday. He said it was useful for the gate valve and ball valve industry.

Soni said earlier, the work done by the cutter machine used to be initiated manually. “Manually, chances of accidents are high. Besides, production is less and quality is also affected. More labour is also required. Earlier, the working was manual, but the machine is fully automatic. A worker can run three machines at a time,” said Soni.

Exhibiting another manufactured machine, Soni said there was a major challenge in front of them that how to compete with China. Industrialists were importing machines from China and Japan for the sanitary industry.

“The dual spindle drilling tapping machine is useful for doing the work of turning and threading. There was no such machine in India yet. I had developed the same machinery with more durability in the country around four years ago,” he said.

“Accuracy is there, time is less consumable and its durability is more than the Chinese machine,” said Soni.

He said the machine from China had a life of only three years, but his machine lasts lifelong.

Karamjit Singh, MD, Machma Expo-2018, said, “Jalandhar is the biggest market as far as the engineering industry is concerned. More than 2,000 micro and small industries are operating in the city. These industries produced industrial goods, machine parts, hand tools, sports products, leather products and sanitary leather products. Jalandhar is Asia’s largest hub for hand tools and sports products. The city produces 70 per cent of India’s hand tools and sports products. Precision industrial equipment is another specialty. After considering all these factors, the need to organise the exhibition was felt.”

Industrialist Narinder Saggu, who is also the president of the Focal Point Extension Association, said such exhibitions could prove to be fruitful for the industrialists as they get to know about the innovations that are being made in the industrial sector.
