Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said his government was trying hard to reach among the top 50 nations in the world in respect of “ease of doing business” to attract more and more global investors to the country.

Inaugurating the ninth edition of the “Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit,” his own brainchild when he was the Chief Minister, Modi said though his government achieved a major success in jumping the global ladder of World Bank’s ease of doing business from 142nd to 77th spot this year, he was not satisfied and asked his team to work harder to reach within the top 50 by next year.

Enlisting the steps his government was taking in the past four and half years to improve the business environment in the country and ensure safety and security of the investors’ money, Modi said India offered great opportunities to the investors and “our democracy, human values and the strong judicial system ensure safety and security of your investments.”

While claiming that implementation of GST and other measures of simplification of taxes had reduced the transaction costs and made processes efficient, the Prime Minister said “India is now ready for business as never before.”

Earlier, Mukesh Ambani urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps to end increasing “data colonisation” by global corporations, saying Indians should own and control their own data.
