Ludhiana: Unknown persons broke into three shops of deed writers at the Jagraon court complex on the intervening nights of October 7 and 8 and took away two CPUs and LCDs of computers, an inverter and battery. The estimated cost of the stolen goods is stated to be around Rs 15,000. According to the police, a case was registered against unknown persons under Sections 457 and 380, IPC, on a complaint lodged by deed writer Avtar Singh, resident of Patti Behla Kaonke Kalan. The other shops from where computer hardware, inverter and battery were stolen are owned by Shiv Kumar, resident of Pona, and Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Mohalla Teg Bahadur Nagar. oc

Ludhiana: The Jagraon Sadar police have arrested Kulwinder Singh of Raikot, Jagroop Singh of Nangal Khurd (Jodhan), Nikka Singh of Raikot, Sonu Singh of Ramgarh Bhullar (Jagraon) and Shamsher Singh, alias Shera, of Ramgarh (Kot Ise Khan, Moga) for illegal mining of sand and seized five tractor-trailers loaded with sand from their possession. They have been booked under Sections 379 and 411, IPC, and Section 21, Mining and Mineral Act 1957. A police party saw a convoy of five tractor-trailers loaded with sand coming from Nanksar Sahib side. During questioning by the police, the tractor-trailer drivers failed to produce any document from the Mining Department regarding permission for mining and carriage of sand. The police have taken into custody four Arjun mark tractors without number plates and one Eicher tractor bearing registration No. PB 29X 5986 along with trailers. oc
