Mohali: A 16-year-old Nepal national died after being hit by a private bus at the local industrial area on Saturday. The victim has been identified as Ramesh Bahadur, who lived here with his family. He was a student of Class VIII and was going to school when the accident happened. Ramesh’s father was following him at a distance. Inspector Lakhwinder Singh, Phase 1 SHO, said the incident occurred around 11 am when Ramesh Bahadur, who was on his Activa scooter, was hit by a private bus. “Ramesh died on the spot. The bus driver fled the spot along with the vehicle,” said the SHO. The SHO said the registration number of the bus was jotted down by a passerby. TNS

5 arrested for theft, snatching 

Chandigarh: The police have cracked two snatching cases, one case of burglary and two cases of vehicle theft. The Sector-39 police arrested five accused on Wednesday. They have been identified as Gaurav (18) of Burail village, Vinod (18) of Sector 37 C and three juveniles. Stolen mobiles, gold ring, gold chain, battery, vehicles and Rs 12,000 have been recovered. One caught with 23 gms of opium

Dera Bassi: The Mubarikpur police have arrested a person and recovered 23 grams of opium from him at a naka laid near Dera Bassi on Friday. The suspect has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Mubarikpur, Dera Bassi. Kulwant Singh, in-charge at the Mubarikpur police post, said the police party laid a naka near the Mubarikpur road here on Friday. The suspect, who was riding a motorcycle, was signalled to stop for checking. The police recovered 23 grams of opium from him and arrested him. The police produced the suspect before the judicial magistrate, Dera Bassi, which sent him to judicial custody. OC

Man arrested with  vials, drug money

Mohali: The police have arrested a person with drug money worth Rs 85,000 and 30 banned injections at a naka laid near Saneta village here. The suspect has been identified as Vakil Khan, a resident of Nawanshahr. According to the police, Vakil Khan, along with another person, later identified as Rajiv Verma, also from Nawanshahr, was coming from the Banur side on a scooter. “Rajiv, who was riding pillion, jumped off the vehicle after seeing the naka and fled from the spot,” said the police. The police intercepted Vakil and found 30 banned injections and Rs 85,000 drug money from his haversack. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered. Haryana resident held with heroin

Mohali: The CIA wing of the local police has arrested a drug peddler with 17 gram of heroin here. The suspect has been identified as Vikram Singh, alias Vicky, a resident of Khera village in Sirsa district, Haryana. According to the police, the suspect was coming on a scooter from the Balongi side to Mohali. During search, the police recovered 17 grams of heroin from him. The police said Vicky used to sell drugs to his customers in the Mohali area. The police have registered a case against him. TNS

Obstructing govt servant: 1 held

Ambala: “The district police have arrested Sohan Lal of Saha for obstructing a revenue patwari in discharge of his official duty,” officials said on Saturday. According to the police, revenue patwari Rajesh Kumar had reported that the suspect obstructed him from discharging official duty and manhandled and threatened him with dire consequences at Patwarkhana in Harda village, near Saha, on July 25. The suspect was produced before a local court, which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody, officials added. TNS

Phone  recovered from central jail

Ambala: A mobile phone with battery was recovered from Central Jail here, the police said on Saturday. According to officials, Central Jail Deputy Superintendent Vivek Sangwan had reported to the police that during a checking drive a mobile phone with battery was recovered near cell No. 1 and 7 on July 26. “The police have registered a case and begun investigation,” officials added. Two minor girls among 5 missing

Ambala: “Five persons, including two minor girls, have reportedly gone missing from their homes in separate cases,” the police said here on Saturday. According to information, a 14-year-old girl had gone missing from her home in Barara since July 25. Similarly, a 17-year-old daughter of Harkesh Kumar had gone missing from her home in Shahzadpur, near here, since July 25. In separate cases, a 40-year-old Naggal resident Ranjit Singh, 50-year-old Atul Jain of Ambala City and 28-year-old Naraingarh resident Binder had reportedly been missing for the past couple of days. The missing person’s reports have been registered. “The police have launched a manhunt to trace the missing persons,” officials added. TNS 

Three held with 10-gm intoxicant 

Kharar: The Kurali city police have arrested three youth, who were coming in a car from the Chandigarh side, following the recovery of 10 gm of white intoxicant powder from their possession. As per information received from the SHO, Kulwant Singh, a case under the NDPS Act was registered against the three suspects. They were sent to one day police remand by a Kharar court, he added. oc 

BJP cell prepares health cards 

Chandigarh: The medical cell of the BJP organised a camp to register residents under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana at Mani Majra today. Giving information, Prince Bhandula, in-charge of the cell, said Ayushman Bharat cards of more than 100 residents were prepared at the camp. The Mani Majra municipal councilor, Jagtar Singh Dhillon, Swarn Singh, Chandigarh Ayushman Bharat coordinator Saroj Nain and Harjit Singh were among others present in the camp. tns

GMADA to allot plot Nos. in IT city

Chandigarh: “GMADA will allot numbers to letter of intent (LoI) holders of 256.66 sqyds residential plots in the IT City, SAS Nagar,” said  Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister after holding a meeting at PUDA Bhawan, Mohali. During the meeting officials told the minister that amended environmental clearance for the IT City project was obtained and contract for execution of development works in the area where 256.66 sqyds plots were located was allotted and works on the site were in progress. Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Cricket Association, affiliated to Haryana, has announced U-23 probable squad for the inter-district tournament to be organised by the Haryana Cricket Association next month. Golfer Ojaswani claims top spot 

Chandigarh: Ojaswani Saraswat of Mohali Golf Range topped the field in the U-8 category at the Albatross Junior Golf Tournament at the Jaypee Greens Golf Club in Noida. The six-year-old, who trains under Harmeet Kahlon, scored 43-40 to claim the top spot. Ojaswani’s card included a birdie and five pars. TNS
