Chandigarh: Three unknown motorcycle-borne miscreants have been booked for snatching a purse and a mobile phone from a person. The incident took place on May 23. However, a case in this regard was registered on June 18. According to the police, complainant Mohammad Samsad, a resident of Kajheri village, alleged that three unknown persons riding a motorcycle snatched a purse containing Rs 5,000 and a mobile phone. The incident was reported from near the T-point in Sector 53. A case in this regard has been registered at the Sector 36 police station. TNS 

Man ends his life in Sector 32

Chandigarh: A 33-year-old man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in Sector 32. The victim has been identified as Bhupinder. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning after which the police were informed. The victim was taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead. The police have initiated inquest proceedings into the matter at the Sector 34 police station. TNS

Theft reported from booth 

Chandigarh: Six deodorants and around Rs 6,000 were stolen from a booth in Sector 31. According to the police, complainant Sumit Jindal reported that an unknown person entered the booth after breaking open the locks on the night intervening June 17 and 18. According to the complainant, six deodorants and cash were stolen. The police were informed about the incident following which a case has been registered. TNS

Seven buses impounded

Chandigarh: The UT State Transport Authority has impounded seven private buses that were found plying without documents. According to information, the authorities had laid a naka in Sector 52. During checking, seven bus drivers could not produce relevant documents. Following this, the buses were seized.  TNS

Karamcharis to gherao MC office

Chandigarh: The Safai Karamchari Union will gherao the Municipal Corporation office on Thursday demanding that the suspension of union president Krishan Kumar Chadha be revoked. Union leaders said during their protest, they would decide whether they will lift the waste from houses or not. They said if Chadha’s suspension was not revoked, they would stop cleanliness work and not collect waste from households. A few days after Mayor Rajesh Kalia and safai karamchari Chadha allegedly came to blows at the MC office, the latter was placed under suspension on Tuesday.  TNS

Three arrested under NDPS Act

Ambala: The CIA-2 has arrested three men with 31 kg of ‘chura post’ near the Devi Nagar bridge on the National Highway on Wednesday night. The suspects have been identified as Balbir Singh, Sunny and Gulshan, all residents of Ludhiana, Punjab. According to information, acting on a tip-off a car was stopped near the Devi Nagar bridge on the Rajpura-Ambala road around 8:20 pm. Two plastic sacks filled with 31-kg ‘chura post’ were recovered from the car. A case was registered under Section 15 of the NDPS act at the Ambala Sadar police station. On Thursday, the suspects were produced before a court, which sent Balbir to seven-day police remand. Sunny and Gulshan have been sent to judicial custody.  TNS

BML XI beat Gladiators 

Chandigarh: BML XI defeated Zirakpur Gladiators by 11 runs in a Corporate Cricket League match here on Wednesday. Batting first, BML XI scored 182/5 in 20. In reply, Gladiators could only manage 171/8 in the allotted overs. TNS

Harshit shines with bat

Chandigarh: Harshit Kapoor scored an unbeaten 56 to help St Joseph’s School beat Vivek High School, Mohali, by 113 runs in a Sub-Junior Cricket Championship match. Batting first, St Joseph’s scored 232/6 in 20 overs. In reply, Vivek High were all out for 119 runs. TNS
