Mohali: Thieves targeted a doctor’s house at Kansal and decamped with cash and gold ornaments worth around Rs 20 lakh from there. The incident came to light when the victim, Dr Chander Singh, and his family members returned home on Wednesday. The victim said on their return, they found the locks broken and the house ransacked. “Cash and gold jewellery items, worth around Rs 20 lakh, were found missing from the house,” said the police. Three booked for assault  

Kharar: The police have booked Gurbaj Singh, his wife and son for assaulting Jaswant Singh, a resident of Hasanpur village. The complainant told the police that the outlet of filthy water from the suspect’s house was in front of his residence. He had told Gurbaj’s wife to get their tanks cleaned. Shortly after that, the complainant was badly beaten up and was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Kharar, from where he was referred to a Sector 32 hospital in Chandigarh. OC 

Godman booked on fraud charge   

Kharar: The local police have registered a case of fraud against Budh Singh, a resident of Mehndipur. He allegedly duped Avtar Kaur, a resident of New Honey Avenue, of Rs 17.25 lakh. She told the police that the suspect claimed to be a godman and came into his contact during the treatment of  her  brother-in-law. On the directions of the suspect, she had purchased a house in Kharar. The suspect had allegedly taken Rs 17.25 lakh  but did not return to her. OC 

Tribune T20 cup from Jan 23

Chandigarh:  The first The Tribune Inter-School T20 Cricket Tournament will be held from January 23-29 here. The tournament is being organised in association with Chitkara University. The championship will be held in the U-16 age-group and 12 teams from tricity schools will compete in it, the organisers said here on Thursday. The teams will be divided into two groups and the top-two from each group will play in the semifinals. The winner and the runner-up shall be awarded the cash prizes along with the trophy, the organisers added. Participation in the tournament is free and teams shall be selected on first come first serve basis. TNS

Wrestling meet from tomorrow 

Chandigarh:  Chandigarh Wrestling Association will organise the sub-junior and junior wrestling championships on January 19 and 20 respectively. Weigh-in will take place from 8-9 am, the sports body said here on Thursday. The interested wrestlers need to produce their parents’ Aadhaar card along with their own to compete in the championship, the organisers added.TNS

Uttkarsh helps Sun Rangers win

Chandigarh: Uttkarsh scored a strokeful half-century before claiming two wickets to help Sun Rangers beat Moonlight Exploders by 26 runs in the Pharma U-14 Cricket Tournament here on Thursday. Batting first, Sun Rangers made 129/4 in 20 overs, with Uttkarsh hammering a 56. Yaanis remained unbeaten on 22. In reply, Exploders were all out for 106 runs in 18.3 overs. Namitveer was the most effective bowler for Sun Rangers, claiming 3/12. Uttkarsh picked 2/5. In another match, Night Hikers registered a five-wicket win over Nature Blasters. Batting first, Blasters made 125/9. Hikers, in reply, reached home in 18.3 overs with five wickets in hand. TNS

HDFC beat Transmed XI

Chandigarh:  HDFC Bank XI managed a narrow one-wicket win over Transmed Kings XI in a 5th Champions Corporate Cricket League match on Thursday. Chasing 89 runs for victory, the bankers limped home in the final over with just one wicket in hand. Shubham made a vital 22-ball 30, while Akshay Sharma contributed 25 runs to the chase. Earlier, Kings were all out for 88 runs in 19.4 overs. Harsh Sharma (3/8) and Akshay Sharma (3/14) claimed three wickets each for the bankers. TNS
