Chandigarh: Three juveniles have been apprehended by the UT police while riding a stolen Maruti car bearing a fake number. According to the police, the juveniles, one aged 14 and the others 16, were apprehended on the road from Khuda Lahora towards Nayagaon while riding a stolen Maruti car. A case has been registered against them at the Sarangpur police station. The juveniles have been sent to Juvenile Home in Sector 25. TNS

2-yr-old drowns in village pond

Mohali: A two-year-old girl drowned in a pond at Kandala village here. The victim, identified as Kabila Bano, reportedly slipped into the pond accidentally while playing with other children there. Her father Ali Mohammad was immediately informed by the children about the incident. When the girl was pulled out of the pond, she was found unconscious. She was taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital at Sector 32, Chandigarh, where doctors declared her brought dead. The police handed over the victim’s body to her kin after a postmortem. The police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC in the case. TNS

Dera Bassi MC gets new prez 

Dera Bassi: Harjinder Singh Rangi, councillor from Ward No.12, who was unanimously elected as the president of the Dera Bassi Municipal Council in December last year, took charge on Monday. MLA Narinder Kumar Sharma was present on the occasion besides all 17 municipal councillors.  The post has been lying vacant since February 18 last year after Bhupinder Saini, the then president of the Dera Bassi Municipal Council, resigned. 3 landlords booked 

Zirakpur: Continuing its drive against those who failed to comply with the tenant verification rules, the Zirakpur police here on Sunday booked three landlords under Section 188 (disobedience to order promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code. The police said they had got a tip-off that Narinder Singh, a resident of MS Enclave, Dhakoli had rented out his property in Kishanpura village and failed to comply with the tenant verification rules. Similarly, the police raided two more societies in Dhakoli and found two landlords who failed to abide by the rules. People have been urged to cooperate with the police. OC

Punjab add four medals to kitty 

Chandigarh:  Punjab players added four more medals in their kitty during the ongoing Khelo India Games. In the U-21 Air Pistol event Arjun Cheema won the gold medal, while in the U-17 category Rajkanawar Singh Sandhu claimed silver position. The U-17 hockey team claimed the silver medal, while weightlifter Gagandeep Gill won bronze medal in the +102kg category.TNS

Arav’s ton in Gurukul Win 

Panchkula: Arav scored an unbeaten quick fire ton off 46 balls, studded with 11 boundaries and seven sixes to help Gurukul Cricket Academy beat Eicher School Academy Parwanoo by 32 runs in ongoing 2nd Grecobe U-14 Cup. The Gurukul boys scored 188/6 in 25 overs. Arav’s innings was ably supported by Mridul Chawla (28) and Harshit Dhawan (27).  Manish (3/23) was the main wicket taker for the bowling side, while Suraj claimed 2/29. In reply, Eicher Academy scored 156 runs with the help of Ritish Thakur (64) and Alam (56). TNS

St Joseph’s-44 boys log win 

Chandigarh: Aryan Chaudhary claimed 3/13 to help St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School beat Rajkumar Sharma Academy, Kapurthala, by 34 runs. Batting first, St Joseph’s boys posted 164/8 in 30 overs. Ishaan Gaba (48.) remained the major run scorer for the side, while Arpit Dhir (34) and Bhavya Thakur (25) were the other two main scorers. Dilpreet Singh, Harwinder and Nehal Singh claimed two wickets each for the bowling side. In reply, the Kapurthala bundled out on 130 run in 28.4 overs with the help of Harwinder Singh (19), Jaswinder (17) and

City grapplers shine in nationals 

Chandigarh: Local grapplers clinched seven medals in the Khelo India Wrestling Games, concluded recently in Pune. In the freestyle event, Pawan (57kg) and Naveet (65kg) claimed a silver medal each, while Mukesh (74kg) bagged a bronze. While in Greco-Roman, Yogesh (55kg), Raj Kumar (60 kg) and Neeraj (87kg) won a bronze medal ch. Sahil (97kg) claimed the silver medal. Sahil has also been selected for SAI scheme. TNS
