Mumbai, September 17

Actress Urmila Matondkar who quit the Congress alleging major infighting in its Mumbai unit today denied reports that she was joining the Shiv Sena.

“I am not joining any other party so it’s a kind request to the media to kindly not share whatever they hear. It is unfair towards me to say the least and also not appropriate towards any party,” Matondkar said in a statement.

Earlier today, several television channels reported that Matondkar had met Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s personal secretary Milind Narvekar and was in the process of joining the regional party. Matondkar contested as the Congress candidate from the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency in the parliamentary elections earlier this year. She lost to BJP’s outgoing MP Gopal Shetty. — TNS
