Solan, August 23

A resident of Himmatpur Davli village near Kumarhatti was forced to vacate his house following seepage of water in the foundation of his double-storey building owing to the four-laning work of the Parwanoo-Solan section of National Highway (NH)-05.

Dhani Ram said he has been running from pillar to post for the last several weeks after the four-laning work had started damaging his house. A complaint was also made to the police to register an FIR against the company as reckless four-laning work had rendered his house unsafe for dwelling.

He told The Tribune that letters had been written to the Deputy Commissioner as well as the officials of the GR Infraprojects, which was four-laning the highway, apprising them about the imminent danger but they turned a deaf ear to his complaint.

Though the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Solan, had directed the four-laning company to assess the loss caused to his house and do the needful, he was bluntly refused any compensation by the NHAI officials on Wednesday, informed Dhani Ram.

He said he had shifted his entire family comprising 11 persons, including women and children, to a safer accommodation. However, it was lamentable that the highway authorities were indifferent to his plight.

Solan SDM, Rohit Rathore , who was also the land acquisition officer for this four-laning work, said Dhani Ram’s case would be assessed by an authorised agency and it would be sent for grant of compensation to the NHAI, if found fit. He said seven such cases had already been recommended and sent for award of compensation to the NHAI by them.
