HIV awareness van flagged off

AMRITSAR: Officials of the District Health Department on Monday flagged off a van to create awareness about HIV and AIDS in the district. The van was flagged off by Civil Surgeon Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai.

Officials of the District Health Department on Monday flagged off a van to create awareness about HIV and AIDS in the district. The van was flagged off by Civil Surgeon Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai.

Speaking on the occasion, Ghai said the van would play audio-visual publicity material to create awareness about the causes, prevention and treatment of the diseases.

He said the focus would be on to educate people about the precautions which need to be taken to prevent the diseases as prevention was always better than cure.

The civil surgeon said incase of any doubts about the health, the patients can contact their nearest health institutions. “The identity of the patients is kept secret,” he said.

He said that transmission through use of injectable drugs was one of the biggest concerns and health department was also creating awareness among addicts and general public.
