Hisar, October 29

Hisar district has got prominence in the Assembly after 23 years. Six of its seven MLAs will sit on the treasury benches in the Assembly.

Deputy Chief Minister and former Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala has made the residence of his father Ajay Chautala in Urban Estate here his political centre.

Former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, hailing from Adampur, had the longest tenure as Chief Minister. After he relinquished charge in 1996, Hisar’s political stature diminished to an extent.

The district sent ministers to the Cabinet like OP Jindal for a brief period during Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government and Capt Abhimanyu in Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government. The ministers kept their influence largely confined to their respective Assembly constituencies.

People now hoped that Dushyant would end the drought of development in the district. The BJP won from Hisar, Nalwa and Hansi and the JJP from Narnaund, Uklana and Barwala. The Congress won from Adampur, which elected Kuldeep Bishnoi.

A prominent problem is shortage of water in villages of Nalwa, Narnaund, Adampur and Hansi segments. Randhir Singh, sarpanch of Budana village in Narnaund segment, said they had high hopes from the new government.

The Uklana segment, which elected Anoop Dhanak for the second consecutive time, this time on the JJP ticket, hoped that Dushyant would ensure electrification of dhanis.

Though BJP MLA Kamal Gupta took credit for setting up the airport, residents were crying hoarse over lack of facilities like water, good roads, cleanliness, parking, rainwater drainage and cattle management. “We hope that the new regime will work to redress basic issues of the town,” said a local resident.
