Himachal records highest-ever polling of 70.4%

SHIMLA: Himachal today recorded the highest-ever voter turnout in any parliamentary elections at 70.40 per cent, as compared to the all-time high of 65.32 in the 1998 Lok Sabha elections.

Himachal today recorded the highest-ever voter turnout in any parliamentary elections at 70.40 per cent, as compared to the all-time high of 65.32 in the 1998 Lok Sabha elections.

With clear skies, polling was brisk right from the morning, especially in rural areas. The voters decided the fate of 45 candidates. The highest polling of 73.02 per cent was registered in the Mandi Lok Sabha segment, followed by Shimla at 71.59, Hamirpur at 71.26 and Kangra 66.18. 

Very high polling was witnessed in BJP bastions, with the Assembly segment of CM Jai Ram Thakur recording the highest turnout of 82 per cent. At present, all four seats are with the BJP. The voting percentage was 64.45 in 2014.
