Press note or chargesheet

A press note from the Congress Legislature Party on the opening day of the winter session of the Vidhan Sabha took everyone by surprise.

A press note from the Congress Legislature Party on the opening day of the winter session of the Vidhan Sabha took everyone by surprise. The document that was meant to be a press note looked like a chargesheet, listing all issues against the BJP regime in its one-year rule. It left everyone baffled as issuing it was rather ill-timed and out of context. “It appears that the attempt is to sabotage the chargesheet that is being prepared by the Congress as issuing the press note made no sense on the opening day of the session,” remarked a party leader. It looked more like a chargesheet and little like a press note. There were others who said there was a virtual oneupmanship tussle in the Congress where everyone wanted to be ahead of the others even if it caused awkward moments for the party. There are still four years left for the Assembly elections, but it appears that some leaders in the Congress are already putting in their might to become the Chief Minister in 2022. Any guesses ?

Bureaucrats at the receiving end

During the winter session of the Assembly that concluded this week, bureaucrats and police top brass were at the receiving end of legislators. The top bureaucracy had some embarrassing moments when the legislators accused them of trying to play politics and pitching politicians against one another. The police were accused of trying to shield criminals. A senior bureaucrat was left embarrassed when a legislator pointed out glaring glitches in the Bill introduced in the Assembly. The legislator went on to say that the Bill was a cut copy and paste work and no mind had been applied in its drafting. The bureaucrats faced a barrage of questions from the legislators with a smile on their faces.

Palampur turns political hotspot

Many BJP leaders have opened their offices in Palampur Assembly constituency. Some of the leaders who have opened their offices in the constituency include former minister Ravinder Ravi, BJP Mahila Morcha state president Indu Goswami, ST Morcha national vice-president Trilok Kapoor and Palampur organisational district president Vinay Sharma. Already, the party MP from Kangra, Shanta Kumar, has his residence in Palampur. Most of the said leaders are also in the race for getting the party ticket from Kangra in the forthcoming parliamentary elections. How well the offices of the said BJP leaders serve the party remains to be seen.

Rally in Dharamsala boon for Shimla

The decision of the state government to choose Dharamsala as the venue for holding a rally to mark its one year in power has left the Shimla administration very relieved. With Christmas and New Year round the corner, heavy rush of tourists is expected. It would have become very difficult for the police and officials to manage the crowd in Shimla, especially on December 27. Moreover, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah expected to attend the celebrations, security would have been a major concern in the state capital. “The decision has left everyone happy as tourists will not be inconvenienced, hoteliers will be happy and above all, we will not be burdened with security concerns,” remarked a police officer.
