Srinagar, February 8

Accumulation of snow and landslides at various places have shut the Srinagar-Jammu highway, a crucial supply route into the Valley, for the third consecutive day on Friday as the shortage of essentials mounts in the region.

Atraffic department official said the accumulation of snow at mountainous stretches of the highway in Qazigund, including near Jawahar Tunnel, and landslides in Ramban had led to continued suspension of traffic on the highway.

The official said more than 3,000 vehicles, including supply trucks, were stranded along the highway.

The highway has remained shut for most days during the past 20 days as rain and snowfall had led to landslides, shooting stones and avalanches. — TNS
