Punjab FC, the sole representative from Punjab in Hero I-League will play their home match of the current season here at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana, tomorrow.

Former champions Punjab FC (formerly known as Minerva Punjab FC) started a campaign with an away loss to Churchill Brothers Goa (0-3) while East Bengal were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Kashmir FC two days ago.

However, Punjab FC will hope for a change of fortune as it will be a homecoming for Punjab FC and they will look forward to starting afresh in the first home game of the season. Punjab FC will host three back-to-back home games at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana, starting on December 7. The other two home matches are against the current Hero I-League champions, Chennai City FC on December 10 and against Indian Arrows on December 16.

During the pre-match press conference, Punjab FC coach Yan Law and player Gagandeep Bali were there.

Yan said it was a good mixture of Indian and foreign players. “We have some local Punjabi players as well. The mood in the camp is electric and we can’t wait to kick off our season in front of our home fans,” he added.

When asked about the team’s chances against East Bengal, Bali was very positive and said “We hope to kick off our home season with a win. We have studied East Bengal very well and my teammates are fit and positive to get all three points.”

From Quess East Bengal coach Alejandro Menéndez of Spain and player Kassim Aidara attended the press conference. The Spaniard said: “We have been travelling a lot and are on a tight schedule as we played our first match of the season just two days back. Our players are a bit tired but we will give our all tomorrow.”

Kassim Aidara was the part of the I-League winning Punjab FC team, two years back. When he was asked about his feelings about facing his previous club, he said Punjab FC treated me really well. “We were like a family but now I am an East Bengal player and will have mixed feelings facing my previous club.”

The kick-off will be at 2 pm.
