Heavy snow likely from tomorrow

SHIMLA: The local Met office has warned of heavy and very heavy snowfall on February 6 and 7 in the mid and high hills of Kullu, Chamba, Lahaul and Spiti, Shimla, Kangra and Kinnaur districts as an active western disturbance is very likely to affect the state from tonight.

The local Met office has warned of heavy and very heavy snowfall on February 6 and 7 in the mid and high hills of Kullu, Chamba, Lahaul and Spiti, Shimla, Kangra and Kinnaur districts as an active western disturbance is very likely to affect the state from tonight.

“Under the influence of the western disturbance, light to moderate rainfall or snowfall is likely to occur at isolated places from tonight and it will increase thereafter and heavy rainfall also very likely to occur at isolated places over mid and lower parts of the state on February 6 and 7 along with hailstorm,” said local Met Office Director Manmohan Singh.

The region had a dry day on Monday, but still minimum temperatures were under freezing point in tribal areas and higher reaches and Keylong recorded night temperature at minus 13 degrees followed by Kalpa minus 5 degrees and Manali minus 0.6 degree. Due to moderate to heavy snowfall, roads are likely to be blocked in Chamba, Kullu, Lahaul and Spiti, Shimla and Kinnaur districts. — TNS
