Jalandhar, June 17

After doctors in the district decided to boycott work for a day in support of their striking colleagues in West Bengal, patients had to face tough time due to suspended medical services.

The patients who came to the Civil Hospital had to return without treatment.

Unaware of the strike and the government holiday, Rahul Kumar (26), a migrant, who had came from Kartarpur, said, “I came for check-up of my pregnant wife. However, nurses at the emergency ward refused to attend to her and asked me to visit tomorrow. But it is difficult for us to visit the hospital again as it’s her sixth month of pregnancy.”

Several OPD patients also returned from private hospitals. The working staff at the hospitals said they had already cancelled the appointments for the day and those who were called were advised to visit tomorrow.
