New Delhi, December 14

High Court today quashed Centre's decision to ban private firms from making and selling Oxytocin, used to induce labour and prevent bleeding during child birth, calling the move "unreasonable and arbitrary" for not considering its "deleterious effect" on pregnant women and young mothers.

A bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and A K Chawla said the government did not consider that its restricted supply, by confining its production to a state-run unit, would pose danger to its potential users. — PTI
