Harpreet Brar claimed a fifer as Punjab reduced hosts Andhra to 182/9 after closing their first innings on 374 on the second day of their Col CK Nayudu Trophy match at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Ananthapur on Thursday.

Chasing a decent total, Andhra had a poor beginning as they lost G Jayavardhan on 17. The opener was trapped in front by Brar after scoring a 22-ball nine.

K Maheep Kumar and Kranthi Kumar added 37 runs for the second wicket before Brar struck again for the visitors. Maheep Kumar offered a return catch to the bowler after facing 71 balls for his 29. Kranthi Kumar did not last long either and was dismissed by Brar on 20.

Seven runs later, Ikjot Singh Thind claimed R Achyuta Rao (14) to reduce the hosts to 76/4.

Charan Sai and wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruva Kumar Reddy stretched the total past the 100-run mark before Akul Pandove cleaned up the latter to spell more trouble for Andhra.

Sai was consumed by Kashish Panseja after scoring a fighting 38, while Vinay fell to Brar on nine.

Skipper Imandi Karthik Raman became Brar’s fifth victim. He was caught by Mansab Gill on two. PP Manohar fell to Thind after making a brisk 29.

Brar was the most impressive bowler for the visitors, claiming 5/43. Thind took 2/19, while Panseja (1/13) and off-spinner Pandove (1/90) bagged a wicket each.

Earlier, resuming the day on 282/6, Punjab rode on 56-run partnership between Panseja and Abhinav Sharma to reach 374 runs.

The visitors lost Pandove, who was batting on 106 yesterday, for the addition of just 14 runs to the overnight total. The all-rounder was caught by wicketkeeper Dhruva Reddy off J Vinod Naidu on 111.

Sharma fell to A Vinaykumar after hammering a 32-ball 39. Five runs later, Vinaykumar struck again, removing Panseja on 66.

Brar was the last wicket to fall in the Punjab innings. He was clean bowled by Sai on seven. Thind remained unbeaten on 10. For the hosts, A Vinaykumar took 3/73.
