Harpreet Brar’s seven-wicket helped Punjab register a narrow one-wicket win over Bengal in their final and lift the CK Nayudu Trophy at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium.

Chasing 137 runs for victory, Punjab managed to cross the line with tail-enders Arshdeep Singh and Ikjot Singh Thind adding 13 runs for the 10th wicket. Earlier, Brar spun a web around the Bengal batsmen and restricted them to just 76 runs in their second innings after the visitors had gained a crucial 58-run lead.

Brar, who had claimed 5/62 in Bengal’s first innings, ran through the visitors’ line-up, dismissing Sudip Kumar Gharami (0), Shubham Chatterjee (9) and Kazi Junaid Saifi (0) before wrapping up the tail to return with figures of 7/23.

Skipper Ritwik Roy Chowdhury and Agniv Pan battled hard for a 29-run partnership for the fifth wicket, but once Akul Pandove removed the latter on 17, Brar got rid of Saurabh Singh (14), wicketkeeper-batsman Arif Ansari (3), Sheryan Chakraborty (1) and Ananta Saha (0) in quick succession to bring the hosts back into the match.

However, things became difficult for the hosts once they lost half of their team for just 68 runs.

With the side still needing 69 runs for victory, Anmolpreet Singh and Himanshu Sharma added a crucial 41 for the sixth wicket to keep the hosts in the hunt. Anmolpreet fell to Chakraborty after scoring a 38-ball 32.

Sharma then in company of Ramandeep Singh took the total to 124. But the loss of three quick wickets turned the game in favour of Bengal. However, Arshdeep and Ikjot held their nerve and saw the side home in the 28th over. Chakraborty returned with a match haul of 10/84. The spinner had earlier claimed 4/28 to bundle out Punjab for 133 runs in their first innings.

Resuming on 40/4, Punjab lost Ramandeep Singh for the addition of 33 runs to their overnight total. The batsman was cleaned up by Aamir on 37. Anmolpreet Singh was consumed by Chakraborty on one, while Nikhil Chaudhary fell to Aamir on 16. Skipper Anmol Malhotra (4) and Harpreet Brar (1) did not last long either.

Akul Pandove’s was the last wicket to fall in the Punjab innings, castled by Chakraborty after scoring a patient 110-ball 34.
