Jalandhar, October 18

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today warned college management committees of harsh action in case any report of student being harassed over Post-matric Scholarship Scheme was reported.

The DC while presiding over a meeting here with the college managements, students and officers of civil administration at the District Administrative Complex said debarring any student from taking an examination or withholding his degree on account of the scheme would not be tolerated at any cost.

He said the scheme had been initiated to enable the students from weaker and underprivileged sections to get higher education so that  they could contribute to the socio-economic growth of the country. The DC categorically said the state government was fully committed to implement the scheme with the active support of educational institutions. The colleges would be reimbursed for allowing students to study so that they do not feel any burden. However, the colleges should implement the scheme in both letter and spirit so that maximum students could get its benefit.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department Parminder Singh Gill apprised the colleges that the department had opened a portal for educational institutions under the scheme. He said the portal for registration of students would be operational within a week. The colleges must follow the instructions issued by the state government for the correct implementation of the scheme.
