Jammu, January 11

The Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha on Friday urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to extend the provisions of the recently passed Bill on 10 per cent reservation to economically backward upper caste communities to the state too.

Addressing a meeting of the sabha activists here, president Ved Prakash Sharma welcomed the decision on the issue, but expressed concerned over the need to extend the benefits to J&K.

“Now, the immediate task is to extend the provisions of the Bill to J&K and start an aggressive recruitment drive to enable the poor among the upper class to avail its benefits.”

Stressing the need to constitute a minority commission in the state, Sharma said minorities in J&K had suffered a lot over the last three decades.

He appealed to the Governor to take up the issue at the highest level so that there were no hiccups in providing this much-needed facility to the people of J&K.
