Gursukhandeep’s spell puts city in commanding position

Gursukhandeep bagged a five-wicket haul to put Chandigarh in a commanding position against Fatehgarh Sahib on the opening day of the Punjab Inter-state Cricket Championship for Dhruv Pandove Trophy at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here today.

After winning the toss, the local skipper asked Fatehgarh Sahib to bat first. The bowlers justified his decision as they dismissed Fatehgarh Sahib for 139 runs in 70 overs.

Gursukhandeep took five wickets for 35 runs, while Uday Bhagwan took three wickets for 27 runs. Manjot Singh was the highest scorer for the visitors, getting 70 off 110 balls, studded with six boundaries.

Anshul Negi scored 112 off 184 balls, with the help of 11 boundaries and one six, to help Mohali get to 318/8 in 70 overs before the side declared their innings against Fazilka at DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8. In reply, Fazilka were bundled out for 54 runs in 26.5 overs. Opting to bat first, Mohali lost the first five wickets for 126 runs. Thereafter, Negi and Akshdeep Singh raised a 152-run partnership for the sixth wicket to put Mohali’s innings back on track. Akshdeep contributed 87 off 107 balls, including 15 boundaries. Rahul Saxena (4/118) was the pick of bowlers.

Later, Negi (3/1) and Harshdeep (3/20) bagged six wickets for Mohali, while Jashanpreet (2/4) and Ashwani (2/14) took two wickets each to bowl Fazilka out cheaply.

Saksham bags 8 wickets, excels with bat too

Saksham Gupta shined for Ropar by claiming 8/29 to restrict Nawanshahr to 162 at Government College in Ropar. Of his 25.1 overs, 14 were maiden overs.

Gupta also took a hat-trick in the 50th over of the innings. Nawanshahr were bundled out in 54.1 overs. Sanchit Jain scored 81 off 110 balls, including eight boundaries and five sixes. In reply, Ropar were 130/3 in 38.3 overs at the end of the day’s play. Gupta contributed with bat also as he scored 75 off 125 balls, with 10 boundaries and two sixes. Manav (2/28) was most successful bowler.

Amritsar in commanding position

Playing on their home turf, Amritsar were bowled out for 273 runs in 77 overs against Hoshiarpur. 

Sarthak (88) remained the leading run-scorer for the side. He got support from Taranveer (33) and Vashish Mehra (33). 

Raghu (4/67) was the pick of the bowlers, while Shahshwat (3/33) and Amar Sher Singh (2/43) were the other bowlers to shine for Hoshiarpur. In reply, Hoshiarpur were struggling at 89/6 in 16 overs when the day ended. 

Raju Kumar Yadav was unbeaten on 28. Vashish Mehra and Ramandeep claimed three wickets each for the bowling side.

Tons by Ridham, Azam

Ridham Satywan (183 off 193 balls, with 13 fours and 14 sixes) and Azam Nazar (102 off 137 balls, with 19 fours) raised a 262-run partnership for the fourth wicket as Jalandhar declared their innings at 331/5 in 60 overs against Ferozepur. Karan Singh and Komal scalped two wickets each for the bowling side. In reply, Ferozepur were bundled out for 68 runs in 25 .4 overs, with Jatin Sahota (4/20) and Lovepreet Singh (4/14) doing most of the damage.

Aryaman , Riteshawar put Patiala ahead

Pacers Aryaman Dhaliwal (3/26) and Riteshawar Singh (3/42) helped hosts Patiala bowl Moga out for 151 at Dhruv Pandove Stadium. Harjeet Singh (2/16) was the other bowler to stand out. Chamkaur Singh (29), Harkaran (24) and Diljot Singh (22) contributed the major share to Moga’s total. 

In reply, Patiala were 23 for no loss in 7 overs at the close of day. The final day of the two-day match wills tart at 9m on Wednesday.
