Ludhiana, December 10

There has been a lot of confusion over the date of extension of filing the GST consolidated annual returns. At present the last date is December 31, 2018.

While one section of tax professionals believe that the date has already been extended upto March 31, 2019, while a few others maintain that the Central Government has not come out with a notification.

Talking to The Tribune, one of the Mantosh Kumar Gupta, a tax professional said ever since the imposition of the GST (July 1, 2017) the Central Government had asked for filing the consolidated GST returns by December 31 this year.

“Apart from quarterly or monthly returns, other information was to be given on the portal. However, the entire information has not been uploaded by the government. There are rumours that the government has extended the date till March 31, 2019. As long as, we do not get a copy of the notification, there will be utter confusion,” said Gupta.

It has been learnt that tax professionals and other organizations, including the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) also sent their representations to extend the date of filing consolidated GST returns.

Another tax professional Mohit Aggarwal said if date would be extended, there would be major respite. “We have heard that a press release has been issued regarding extension. We hope that in two- three days, government will extend the date.”
