Green Land students corner glory in karate tourney

LUDHIANA: Students of Green Land Senior Secondary Public School, Jalandhar bypass, proved their mettle by winning medals in different weight and age groups in the Ludhiana District Inter-School Karate Competition organised by the Education Department at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar, on Wednesday.

Students of Green Land Senior Secondary Public School, Jalandhar bypass, proved their mettle by winning medals in different weight and age groups in the Ludhiana District Inter-School Karate Competition organised by the Education Department at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar, on Wednesday.

Besides, seven of them have been selected to represent the district in the Punjab State Karate Tournament. Students from the school bagged 15 medals, including six gold medals, and stamped their supremacy.

Those who finished among top three position holders among boys and girls include Anubhav (gold medal in the boys U-14, below 50 kg); Manav Chauhan (gold medal in boys U-17, below 58 kg); Somin Dey (gold medal in boys U-19, below 45 kg); Sahil (gold medal in boys U-19, below 50 kg); Bhawya Gola (gold medal in girls U-17, below 52 kg); Riya (gold medal in girls U-17, below 60 kg) and Sakshi Chauhan (gold medal in girls U-17, below 60 kg). The seven students were selected for the state championship.

The silver medal winners are Ankush (boys U-17, below 35 kg); Paras (boys U-17, below 40 kg); Nishchay Ahuja (boys U-19, below 58 kg); Raghav (boys U-19, below 82 kg) and Muskan Sharma (girls U-19, below 48 kg). The bronze medal winners are Nitin (boys U-17, below 55 kg); Ashima (girls U-14, below 42 kg) and Manavi Gumber (girls U-17, below 44 kg).

Rajesh Rudra, Chairman-cum-Director, chain of Green Land Schools, and Baldeep Pandher, principal of the school, congratulated the students and their coach on this achievement.
