The School Education Department on Friday directed all school heads in the state to start celebrating the birthdays of students.
Like the celebration of many special days at schools, the birthday of every student should be celebrated in the school to encourage these students. It will give them a feeling of being special on this day, reads the letter of Secretary, School Education Department, sent to all school heads on Friday.
Students’ birthdays will be recognised during the morning announcements.
During morning prayers, the student who has his birthday on that day should be wished by all teachers and students in the school.
The achievements and the special qualities of the birthday student in any field, including education, sports or extracurricular activities, should be highlighted and shared with other students, reads the letter.
This student should be given a special tag on his/her uniform to make him/her look distinct on the birthday.
However, the schools have been directed not to allow bringing of any gift by such student on his birthday.
By making a special mention of this student on the notice board, students would get to know about it.
As most of the students in the government schools belong to poor families, so, unlike most private schools, the celebration of the birthday of students in government schools is not a common practice.
Besides, the move is also aimed at attracting more and more students to the government schools, said a senior functionary in the School Education Department.
