Chandigarh, December 17

District School Officer Anujit Kaur and chief engineer Mukesh Anand visited Government High School, Sector 53, to inspect constructional flaws today. On Saturday, students had a narrow escape as bricks fell off the beam.

Kaur said she has submitted a report citing evidence of poor construction to Director School Education Rubinderjit Singh Brar. “I saw uneven flooring, water seepage, dampness, and the joist from where bricks had fallen. The contents of the report highlight problems in the building and correctional measures needed to fix them,” she said.

Brar said the report has been submitted to the Education Secretary BL Sharma. “We are certain that he will look into the matter and do the needful,” he said.

Anand asked the superintending engineer CB Ojha to remove all bricks plastered on the beams of the building. “We do not want to take any chances. I have asked my subordinates to take the bricks off all beams. Also, we looked into the problem of dampness caused due to water seepage. We have already started the repair work,” he said.

Superintending engineer Rajinder Singh from the Public Health Department surveyed the school building. “There’s no doubt that the building has a problem of water leakage. A blockage was detected and we are fixing the glitch,” he said.
