New Delhi, June 11

In a move that aims to establish India as a power that can militarily dominate outer space, the government has okayed a new agency — Defence Space Research Agency (DSRO).

It has been tasked with creating specific weapons and technologies for space warfare, sources in the Ministry of Defence said.

The Cabinet Committee on Security headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cleared the setting up of this agency. A team of hand-picked scientists will work with the three services and be coordinating with the Defence Space Agency (DSA), a new body set up to tackle threats in space. The IAF is the lead service in this DSA. — TNS
