Govt initiates steps to empower poor women

The Directorate of Women and Child Development has implemented several schemes for empowerment of women of the weaker sections in the state.

As per the spokesperson of the Directorate, BPL women are getting one-time grant of Rs 12,000 at the time of birth of a girl child under the “Beti Hai Anmol” scheme. They get additional Rs 5,000 assistance under the Mother Teresa Asahay Matri Sambal Yojana per child, per year.

Similarly, the additional honorarium being paid from the state Budget to the anganwari workers, mini-anganwari workers and helpers has been increased by Rs 300 per month.

To minimise the stunting growth among children, women and children get nutrition under the Prime Minister’s POSHAN Abhiyan. The scheme has been started in Chamba, Hamirpur, Solan and Shimla districts where the percentage of stunting, underweight and anaemic children and women has been found more.

The government has launched namely Mahila Shakti Kendra to empower rural women through community participation. — TNS
