Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (GNDH) has made it mandatory for patients to provide Aadhaar or any other identity proof for admission in the hospital. However, as patients or their attendants might not be carrying these documents during emergency, they could face problem.

The officials say the new rules have been made to ensure that no confusion is created. “Sometimes the attendants of a patient brought in emergency forget to give the file to the department concerned and as such a problem is faced,” said an official adding that phone number and address of the attendants and patient would help them trace in case of need.

The hospital has also fixed the responsibility of the employees at admission counter and asked them to ensure that the file reaches the department concerned. An attendant of a patient complained that it would create a problem as people do not carry identity proofs normally.

Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent Dr Surinder Pal said, “ New rules are not meant to harass people. The right to treatment is not subject to availability of identity proof. The idea is just to ensure that employees ask for these from patients so that their details are available which could be used in cases of emergency.” —TNS
