Chandigarh, February 2

A couple residing in Ram Darbar here has been booked for allegedly injuring their 17-year-old daughter with a burning pair of tongs.

The incident occurred on Friday night when the girl was preparing a meal for her parents. Her father burnt her after an altercation.

The next day, both parents left her alone at home and went for work.

The Childline India Foundation, an NGO, received a call on the helpline number, 1098, from a neighbour of the victim who narrated the incident to them.

Today, a Childline team rescued the girl and took her to the Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, where she is undergoing treatment.

The police were informed, following which a case under Section 326 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC was registered against the parents at the Sector 31 police station. Hunt was on to arrest them, the police said.

Dr Sangeeta Jund, project director, Childline India Foundation, said, “The girl had injury marks all over her face, neck and hands. She said her parents often ill-treated her and told her to leave the home. The victim is not ready to go back to her parents. She will be presented before the Child Welfare Committee on Monday.”
