Ghee, milk products seized in Tarn Taran

A checking drive against spurious milk and milk products was conducted by a team of Food Administration, Kapurthala, in Tarn Taran district, headed by Dr Harjot Pal Singh, Assistant Commissioner, Food; Dr Gurpreet Singh Pannu, Assistant Commissioner, Food, Tarn Taran; along with Satnam Singh, Food Safety Officer.

The premises of Angad Milk Foods Pvt Ltd, Chabal – Bikhiwind Road, Panjwad village, Tarn Taran district, engaged in the business of manufacturing and packing dairy shine desi ghee and dairy shine skimmed milk powder (SMP) were searched.

During the course of inspection, the teams found 655 tins of sealed desi ghee, each weighing 15 kg. They also found 218 tins of unsealed desi ghee of the same capacity.

Besides, the team checked eight cartons of nine two-litre packs of ghee each, 52 cartons of 18 one-litre packs each, 35 cartons of 36 packs of half litre packs each and five cartons of 60 packs of 200 ml each. The team also found one quintal of loose desi ghee lying in a vessel.

In all, the health team seized 14.865 tonnes desi ghee.The team also found 1,900 packs of skimmed milk powder weighing 47.5 tonnes.

Members of the raiding team said: “The entire quantity of desi ghee has been seized and kept on the premises of manufacturing unit against a surety bond, duly signed by the owner of the firm with the strict directions not to tamper with the seized material in any manner.

However, the same will be dealt with later on after the receipt of the analysis report of the State Food Laboratory, Kharar and the report of the analysis will be made available to the department as soon as possible.

A total of seven samples of milk and milk products were collected by the team which included five from different packings of dairy shine desi ghee and two from dairy shine skimmed milk powder (Spray dried).

“Further legal action will be initiated in the court of law against the offenders under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 and Rules and Regulations 2011, as per the report of the analysis of the State Food Lab, Kharar,” said Dr Harjot Pal Singh.
