Gurugram, December 10

After two weeks of raids, the police have nabbed the key accused in the Rs37-lakh gas agency robbery case.

The incident took place on November 26 outside the agency owner’s house. The robbery turned out to be choreographed and executed by history-sheeter Sombeer, who was arrested along with his accomplice Deepak from Dwarka Expressway on Sunday night. According to the police, the duo was waiting to carry out another robbery when, following a tip-off, they were nabbed.

Sombeer, during interrogation, said it was a casual conversation with an LPG cylinder seller in jail that led him to the agency. It was in the Bhondsi jail that Sombeer shared his barrack with the illegal LPG cylinder seller.

He told him about the huge profits involved in the business. After being out on bail, he contacted him and got leads about the Urvashi gas agency. He went there to know more about cylinder supply and was suprised to see huge money changing hands at the table of the manager and decided to commit robbery.

He went ahead, hiring Deepak and Manish, Ajay and Sunny, and planned the loot. They reportedly carried out a month-long recce and then struck in the South city-I area when the manager of the Urvashi gas agency was robbed.

The police said Sombeer had five cases of robbery, attempt to murder and carrying of illegal weapons registered against him in Delhi, Gurugram and Jhajjar. He was lodged in Bhondsi jail and came out on bail nine months ago.

“They chose that date owing to bank holiday and were sure that there would be cash hoarded up. When they left the house, they attacked the manager and snatched the money at gunpoint,” said Shamsher Singh Dahiya, ACP (Crime).
