Gang of robbers busted, 4 arrested

The police have arrested four persons of the Amrood Gang which has been carrying out robberies in the distsict and its periphery areas. The accused have been identified as Surjit Singh, alias Mittha (38), Sikandar Singh Khandu (26), Harpreet Singh, alias Happy (21), and Harris, alias Monu (32). Their associate Amritpal Singh, alias Amrood, is at present absconding. The police have recovered a Zen car, a .315 bore pistol, a .12 bore pistol, welding machine, LED TV, mobile phone, inebriating injections, intoxicant tablets, sharp weapon and a baseball bat from their possession.  A case under Section 399 and 402 of the IPC and 25 of the Arms Act has been registered against them. The accused were running a gang in Lambra and were nabbed from a kiln near the Puara drain, where they were waiting for their gang leader Amritpal.

The police raided the spot on a tip-off and nabbed the four accused who had several cases of robberies registered against them. During checks, intoxicant injections were found with Surjit and a case under Section 22 of the NDPS Act was registered against him on Wednesday. As many as 200 intoxicant tablets were received from Khandu.

Involvement of at least nine incidents of gunpoint robberies of the gang was found during the investigation. A gas agency owner was kidnapped and robbed at gunpoint on September 28 by the gang.
