Jalandhar, February 17
A five-member gang involved in looting auto-rickshaw passengers was busted by the Jalandhar rural police on Sunday. All five accused were arrested.
As many as three three-wheelers (one without number, two — PB08 CG 8769 and PB08 BA 9122) and eight ATM cards have been recovered from the gang members.
The accused have been identified as Tarlochan Singh (28) alias Goldy, a resident of Sarhala Ranua village in Nawanshahr, Harjit Singh (36) alias Babbu, a resident of Babak Daria village in Hoshiarpur, Ankush (28) alias Rinku, a resident of Suranussi, Jalandhar, Harjinder Singh (22) alias Baccha, a resident of Basti Nau, Jalandhar, and Kuldeep Singh (23) alias Pala, also a resident of Basti Nau.
SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said the gang had been installing fake numbers on three-wheelers and looting people who were commuting in these autos.
The SSP said the gang members were using the ATM cards of the victims to withdraw money. A case under Sections 379, 380 and 482 of the IPC has been registered against five persons at the Bhogpur police station.
