Sangrur, January 27
Freedom fighter Gurdial Singh (98), who was a driver of Subhas Chandra Bose, refused to be felicitated on a function held to mark Republic Day from Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vijay Inder Singla. He was protesting against his alleged harassment by the Badbar toll plaza authorities and lack of facilities. The minister called the toll plaza authorities and pulled up officers concerned.
“My father-in-law Gurdial Singh refused to take honour as neither does he get required medical facilities nor does he have exemption from toll. Officials of the Badbar toll Plaza misbehaved with us. When there is no respect, why should we accept the honour?” questioned Manpreet Kaur, daughter-in-law of Gurdial Singh. — TNS
