Free eye surgery at villages

JALANDHAR: Free eye check-up camps were organised at various remote villages including Mehatpur, Uggi, Shankar and Kharal Kalan on Wednesday, while free eye surgeries of all those patients who were diagnosed with cataract were conducted at the eye mobile unit.

Free eye check-up camps were organised at various remote villages including Mehatpur, Uggi, Shankar and Kharal Kalan on Wednesday, while free eye surgeries of all those patients who were diagnosed with cataract were conducted at the eye mobile unit.

As many as 2,391 patients were given free consultation. A total of 101 patients were diagnosed with cataract and refraction cases.

The camps were organised under the supervision of Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga. A team led by Dr Arun Verma, Dr Gurpreet Kaur, among other doctors from the district managed the operations and gave free consultation to the patients.

The camps were organised to draw the attention towards blindness and vision impairment ailments among villagers, said Dr Bagga adding that since the start of the year, under ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’ programme they had succeeded in conducting as many as 1,000 cataract surgeries so far. He said, the camps were being held on routine basis to aware people of various eye diseases and accord free treatment to the patients in villages. — OC
