The Shimlapuri police have nabbed four persons on the charge of hatching a conspiracy to kidnap a minor boy of an affluent farmer.

The accused have been identified as Jagtar Singh, alias Tari, a resident of Gopalpur, Jasvir Singh, alias Jassi, Manjit Singh, alias Manjita, and Sukhpreet, alias Suha, all three from Khanpur.

Additional DCP Surindra Lamba said the accused had planned to kidnap 14-year-old son of Sandeep Singh of Dehlon and ask him to pay Rs 6 lakh as ransom for his release.

The police also recovered one auto-rickshaw, a sharp-edged weapon and a toy pistol from the possession of the accused.

Mandeep Singh, a resident of Gopalpur village, had submitted a complaint to the police that on October 17, he was at a tavern where four persons were also sitting behind him. He identified one of them as Jagtar Singh, alias Tari. “I overheard those four persons saying that they had a plan to kidnap a village boy. Jagtar told his three accomplices that they would kidnap son of Sandeep Singh, alias Seepa, for a ransom of Rs 6 lakh,” said the complainant.

“After hearing about their plan, I directly went to the police station and also alerted Sandeep,” he added.

On his complaint, the police registered a kidnapping case against the four accused and arrested them.

The Shimlapuri SHO, Davinder Singh, said the key accused Jagtar was a mason by profession and had also worked at Sandeep’s house. He was aware that Sandeep was a well- off person and could easily give a ransom running into lakhs.

Sources said the accused had even planned to keep the kidnapped boy at a house in Alamgir.
